A Plan for Leadership Accountability

If elected, my focus will immediately shift from a broken search process to ensuring the incoming superintendent is accountable to our community. My mandate will be to provide the oversight this current committee has refused to.

My Pledge:

  1. Immediate Public Review: I will move for a public review of the new superintendent’s performance within their first 90 days, based on criteria co-developed with educators and families, not central office administrators.

  2. Revisit the Contract: I will scrutinize the contract signed by the lame-duck committee. If it contains problematic clauses, golden parachutes, or fails to include clear metrics for success and equity, I will fight to renegotiate its terms to protect our district.

  3. Legislate Transparency for the Future: I will immediately introduce a “Transparent Search Mandate” as formal School Committee policy to ensure this debacle is never repeated. This will include:

    • A fully public bidding process for any search firm.

    • A community-led oversight board for any future search.

  4. Assert Committee Authority: I will use the full investigative power of the School Committee, as outlined in MGL Ch 71 Sec 37, to hold public hearings on the failures of this search process. The community deserves a full accounting of how and why this happened.

  5. Hold the Line on Equity: The incoming superintendent must understand that the priorities of our community are non-negotiable: ending discriminatory discipline, fully funding our schools, and instituting equitable controlled choice. I will be a constant, unrelenting voice for these goals.

This process has been a profound failure of leadership. But our response cannot end with a vote. It must mark the beginning of a new era of fierce, community-driven accountability.
